On Instagram, pictures of celebrities, models, even the designers themselves grace their feed not to mention posting quality pictures of their latest collections. Not only used to market themselves, they use social media as a means to provide their followers (and customers) with a platform to gather inspiration whether it’s through the Cushnie et Ochs line or just through a picture that they themselves find inspiring. Whatever the case the ladies behind the brand know how to work social media to their advantage and we’re catching on.

Representing boutiques from the West Coast, Vancouver shop, Oliver & Lilly’s is undeniably a shop to follow on social media. With an Instagram account featuring posts that both make the cold rainy days cozy or to encourage us appreciate those sunny days that sometimes seem few and far between – the boutique headed by Leighann Boquist is a little bit of fresh fashion air in the world. Posts on Instagram spotlight buying trips, local artists, and their latest stock (usually made up of pieces like the always essential striped shirt). The shop’s “voice” on Instagram is one that is classy, laid back, and super stylish. Give them a follow for sure.

With only one storefront in the entire world (Brooklyn, no less), and who carry pieces so adorable an out-of-country trip seems worth it, Catbird, has garnered what can only be described as a cult-like following on Instagram. Known as the purveyors of what is known by loyal followers as “the stack” (a customizable method of wearing multiple rings on each finger) as well as for the knuckle midi-ring their Instagram feed is full of all kinds of eye candy. Their love affair for New York is prevalent in their posts, where pictures of local restaurants and monuments are not uncommon. What’s really awesome about Catbird, is that they post pictures of the manufacturing process of some of the artist pieces they carry truly connecting their followers to their brand. Catbird is definitely something to purr about.

Opening Ceremony is probably one of the most off-kilter (in an amazing way) boutiques around. First opening in 2002 with a single store in New York, it has quickly grown into a fashion lover’s staple with locations in London, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, a wholesale showroom, an in-house clothing line, blog, online store, TV channel, and an annual magazine. The brand has seen tremendous growth in nearly all areas and is quickly making a name for themselves on social media. Posting pictures of their collections, artist collaborations, and fashion insiders, the OC Instagram account is chalk full of all kinds of unexpected inspiration.

Jill Wenger’s boutique based in Seattle carries fashion, accessories and items that express an intense level of appreciation for art and a “thoughtful sense of beauty”. So why follow them on Instagram? For their gorgeously minimal and simple images, that’s why. As anyone with the photo sharing app knows, taking pictures for social media in particular is an art; Totokaelo has perfected that art. Lately, they’ve taken advantage of the short video option developed for the app with posts that feature several items in one, showing their creativity and innovation. Even though they share very simple photos, the fashion is anything but simple, in fact, one would consider it edgy and avant-garde making brands like Rachel Comey, Margiela, Humanoid and Ann Demeulemeester accessable.
