September is the perfect time of year to start afresh: new goals, a new perspective, and of course some new reasons to re-evaluate your personal style. This year Fall dressing is all about putting a spin on the classics and thinking outside the box. There are also some returns to trends of years gone by because fashion wouldn’t be fashion without a polished version of old favourites.
The buzz around Chanel’s Fall 2014 Couture show included A-list attendees like Kristen Stewart, Jared Leto, and Lily Collins along with Kendall Jenner making her Haute Couture debut. But what has seemed to fall between the glamour is that concrete was the foundation of Lagerfeld’s latest collection for the French fashion house. Along with industrial fabrics, concrete was used in small tiles and moulded into the fabric in the most subtle, unknowing ways.
What Bouchra Jarrar’s couture show lacks in extravagant clothing synonymous with “couture” makes up in immaculate tailoring. Starting off the show was a gorgeously structured short-sleeved jacket worn in lieu of a dress and paired with oxfords. As the show went on, the collection momentum with silk athletic pants and cropped leather and tweed vests.
Giambattista Valli’s couture show was the epitome of art. If there’s any designer that invokes that pitter patter of the fashion heart, Valli’s Fall 2014 show was it.
