Most people know Victorinox Swiss Army for their popular Swiss Army Knife, but their product line is much more diverse. Victorinox produces household and professional knives, precision timepieces, design-driven yet functional fashion, high-quality travel gear, and fragrances, all of which convey a sense of ‘Swissness.’
We were invited to the Loden Hotel to check out the latest pieces from Victorinox Swiss Army.
In 1884, Karl Elsener opened his own workshop in Ibach, a small village in the heart of Switzerland. After just seven years, Elsener was asked to supply the Swiss Army with a Soldier’s Knife for the first time. This was the beginning of the remarkable Swiss success story. Now, 130 years later, Victorinox is still in the hands of the Elseners and is now run by the fourth generation.
When my great-grandfather Karl Elsener opened a cutlery workshop to deliver a soldier knife to the Swiss army in 1884, he had a revolutionary idea in mind. He was looking for a compact and sturdy knife, which offered many functions combined in a single tool. What he invented has long become a legend: the Original Swiss Army Knife.
- Carl Elsener, CEO Victorinox AG
Over the years, both customer needs and technology have changed. The Swiss Army Knife has evolved by responding to these needs, while remaining an essential tool their clients can rely on.
These products from the House of Victorinox have one thing in common. They are an expression of a Victorinox philosophy based on solid values: impeccable quality combined with great reliability, consistent functionality with innovation, refinement with absolute perfection and iconic design.
